SledClub.com News: Cody Borchers Interview
By: SledClub.com

                                                    Cody Borchers

Age: 29
Residing:
Calgary, AB
Sponsors: A&E Racing, Ski-doo, Martin Chrysler, Slednecks, Blue Marble Oil, RK Tek, Bulldog
Decks, Dyno Port, Fly racing, HMK, OGIO, Fox Helmets, MBC, Oakley, AMP.

What got you into sledding and how long have you been doing it for?

My buddy Pat and his family. I use to live in Sherwood Park, AB and I
would hang out at his house whenever I could. His family had a bunch of
sleds and I was allowed to come over and enjoy. It continued from there.  Then my
family moved to Cochrane, AB.   My brother and I worked to save up enough
money to buy XLT Polaris'.  We met a couple guy's in a local riding area
near Cochrane. They saw that we had enough talent to take us to Golden, BC.
And that was the first time in the mountains. Ever since then we just
couldn't get enough.  Now here I am.

What kind of sled/s did you ride this year and what mods did you do to it/
them?

I have 2 sleds this season and they are 07 Race chassis' with 800 Ski-doo
power plants. One has a RT Tek piston head kit with a Dyno Port pipe and
silencer that works amazing. It sure makes a difference from stock. The
other one has a 06 power tek 800 that is stock with a Dyno port pipe and
silencer. With a couple of little tricks and that’s it.........(top secret)
Haha!!!

You had an early season injury.  What happened?

I broke my Rt Radius and wrist. I had a plate and 8 screws put in. That was
pretty sh**ty. It happen December 8 in Colorado at the Compound. I was
trying to learn freestyle. I over jumped the landing, landed flat and snap!

This started your season off on a bad note. Were you still able to reach
all your goals for the year?

Yes it was hard to take, I love all times of the winter and I missed out on
a lot of early season riding. I started riding mid February and battled
cloudy days after days. It took awhile to get the confidence back, but I
have been able to do everything I wanted to accomplish.

                                                                                                          DomG Photo

You just finished sledding in Whistler.  Who where there with and
how did that go for you?

Whistler was awesome this year, I got to ride with Rob Alford, Geoff Kyle,
Ray Archer, Chris Brown, Chris Burandt, Cory Davis, Randy Sherman and Dan
Treadway. It was a good time and there were a couple ups and downs, but that
is a part of sledding.

What videos can we look out for in seeing you in this year?

Slednecks 10, Frontier Films, maybe Matchstick and maybe On The Pipe, we’ll
see about those. It would be sweet to be in a Ski Video, and Moto Video.

Where did you get to sled this winter?

Revelstoke BC, Whistler BC and Colorado.

Do you stay at Rob Alfords bed and breakfast when you’re  in Revy?

Oh for sure, it’s a really nice place to stay. Rob always invites me.

I hear he can cook a pretty mean breakfast. Is this true?

Rob cooks a mean one.  Then I have to clean up the mess....Haha. Robby makes
it a good visit for all his guests!

What would you pick if you could only choose one;  Deep pow descents, big
drops or huge booters?

Oh man. I love it all too much to choose one.

What about between gnarly flips or tweaked out whips?

Well gnarly flips are ballz and they’re pretty wild. Tweaked out whips are
the funnest things to do, I can't get enough of them. There's no other
feeling then throwing a big whip and being upside down.

You have been tweaking those whips out pretty good lately!  any secrets?

Thanks, I have been trying to get better at them. It takes practice and
practice for me.

What do you think about the new 2008 Rev XP?  And would you consider
riding on one next year?

I have ordered 2 for next year. Ski-doo has changed snowmobiling again. I
want to be on them as soon as possible. They look cool. Can’t wait!

Any advice you can give to someone before heading into the backcountry?

Yes, Avalanche gear and take a course as well.  Make sure you know how to use it!
Because the only survival out there is you and your group! Make sure to be
prepared for anything. Bring things to keep warn and be prepared to stay
over night. Things can change so fast while being out there.  Be sure to bring lots of
water and food,  your buddy might forget his....... Use your Head,
common sense and have fun!

Any words of wisdom or quotes to live by?

Work Hard and Play Harder. Treat people the way you want to be treated..

Any last comments or people you want to give thanks to?

Thanks to all my sponsors and everybody that makes it possible for me to do
this.

Thanks for your time Cody

No problem,

Thank you.

How fortunate are we? we happen to live close to some of the best mountains in the world and have access to incredible backcountry that was mostly inaccessible a decade ago. Thanks to early pioneers that were bored with the resorts, and thanks to new technology in mountain sleds, they started heading over the other side of the highway into unknown territory and opened up a vast area for us.
I was so bored with snowboarding and tired of the lineups and tracked out resorts that this backcountry discovery happened just in time. Also I think I'm lucky to have met so many others who are obsessed with sledding as I am and are able to go out there with them and explore our backyard.
It's too bad the majority of people will never experience this or have any idea this is going on. Unlike snowboardin, which we knew would eventually explode and become a household word, backcountry sledding will never do the same but it's just as well. It keeps it core and a little mysterious.
That's all I wanted to say. If you see a truck hauling sleds, give a wave just like the early boarders did back in the day.

If you are thinking of  bringing your skis or snowboard with you when you go snowmobiling check out www.cheetahfactoryracing.com for the best ski and snowboard racks on the market.
All the Cheetah Factory Racing products have been tested and proven to with stand the abuse from the backcountry while sledding with your snowboard or skis attached to the rack.

Here Are A Couple Of The Cheetah Factory Racings Racks:

The CFR Snowboard Bracket System is the best and safest way to keep your snowboard out of the way while snowmobiling. Using the CFR snowboard bracket will make you forget that you have your snowboard with you until you get to the top of your favorite snowboard line or jump spot and turn around. This package contains parts and hardware to carry one snowboard on D or Double D rack. Another snowboard bracket system can be purchased to carry up to two snowboards on D or Double D rack. The Extra strap kit also can be purchased separately and adds another strap and a U- side bracket to keep your snowboard off your tunnel and away from your seat. D and Double D rack are not included and must be purchased separately.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The CFR dual ski bracket system is the best way to get your skis and poles to the top of the mountain safely on your snowmobile. This system can be used with another dual ski bracket on the other side to carry up to two pairs of skis and poles. It also can be used with a snowboard bracket system to carry a snowboard on one side of snowmobile and skis/poles on the other side of snowmobile. When two dual ski brackets are being used it is putting a lot of extra weight on the rear tunnel. Slow down going through rough conditions. Extra tunnel supports are a good idea if you frequently travel in rough conditions with two pairs of skis.

                                     Big Dog Shootout

That's right , its that time of year again to start thinking about the BDSO. Incase you have not guessed it ,that stands for BigDawg ShootOut.

Do you like snowmobiling? How about the idea of 300+ horsepower machines pushing it to the limit in a no holds bar hillclimbing event. If this sounds good to you then you have come to the right spot. That's what the BDSO is all about. All of the regulars will be back including the 2005 and 2006  champions. It should be another great year for you, the spectator to enjoy some great extreme backcountry hillclimbing.

So come out to enjoy the show or use it as an excuse to get yourself up to the Pemberton area for the first time and enjoy some of the best sledding around on the Pemberton Icefield and also see what the town of Pemberton has to offer. Either way it will be a good time.

 For more info check out
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BDSO Schedule

                              Big Dawg Shootout Update

So here it is,after a couple weeks organizing the restaurants, pub and lounge.I have some info.

We'll be holding the awards at the Legion, the Lions and Rotary clubs are going to cater it.We have started out with 350 tickets for dinner, roast beef or turkey the dinner will be $30 each, two bar set ups,we are setting up a couple of big outdoor tents and outdoor heaters, their license is till 1:00 am.You can prebuy your tickets by calling the Legion at 604-894-6561,fax 604-894-6560 or E-Mail at rcl201@whooshnet.com.They will hold the tickets for you or they can send you your ticket. If we sell out early we'll add more tickets.

The Pemho is going to have a meet and greet friday night with some specials, this will be great for the guys staying at the Hotel, you can stagger upstairs.

The Wild Wood Bistro will be holding a meet and greet on friday night as well, that is the reastaurant right near the intersection close to the Pem Valley Lodge.

For the guys who didn't get their rooms in time close to town, there is a motel in Mt Currie and there is a licensed restaurant within walking distance there too, called Yukon Joes.

If you need some VP,let me know what kind and we'll get it for you.

I have a meeting tommorow with the RCMP to bring them up to speed, they have said they will do extra patrols at the different parking areas to keep theft in check.

A SledClub Interview With Ross Mercer

Age: 25
Residing: Whitehorse, Yukon
Sponsors:  -RedBull
                  -SKi-Doo
                  -Oakley
                  -Yukon Honda
                  -Taits Trailer sales
                  -HMK Snowmobiling
                  -AMP products
                  -SledPorn
                  -Frontier Films
                  -Compound Films
                  -SCS Racing
                  -BullDog Sled Decks
                  -Planet Powersports

When you planned on going for the record, did you ever second guess or ask yourself is this actually possible or can my sled even go fast enough?

Not really. I knew I could do it, I actually thought my sled would be plenty
fast enough, but because of the elevation and temperatures it was actually
very close. I was hitting the ramp at full speed at the end with a huge
in run.

Did you do any special training or mods to your sled before going for the
record distance jump?

No. On the first day i was hitting the ramp full speed and not going far
enough, about 246. For the second day I geared my sled up, put on a
lightweight can and took the foam out of my airbox to try to make it faster.
We also extended the run in and for the last jump that i broke the record on
we had the entire inrun salted so it was frozen and hard, which made a big
difference.

What type of sled were you riding while going for the record jump?

I rode my 2007 Skidoo Rev Race chassis with a stock 800 engine. It is a
great sled and it worked perfectly for this jump.

Was there any support or sponsorship from them for the jump?

Yeah, Ski-Doo really helped me out this year. They hooked me up with a
couple of new 2007 sleds which have been great all season.

In general, do you think there should be more support from snowmobile
manufactures for the riders that are pushing the limits of the sport?

Well, the more support the riders get the more they can work at pushing the
limits of the sport. The last couple years have been really great for the
sport. There have been a number of events that have really pushed it into
the mainstream. RedBull has done events all over the world, the event in Red
Square Moscow, the Fuel and Fury event in Alaska last year etc, as well as
the fact that freestyle sledding was a gold medal event at the winter X
games this year have all brought it to the worlds attention. The
manufacturers are definately noticing us now and stepping up to the plate. I
am really excited to be working with SKi-Doo and hope that freestyle can
become a big part of their advertising, the way racing is.

How many paramedics were on stand by while you were going for the record?

I dont know. There was an ambulance standing by and a few people who were
there to deal with any kind of situation that might arise. It was reasuring
to have them there for sure.

What was your pre jump meal?

Well, I had a good crash in Slovenia about 5 days prior to my record
attempt, so I was really sore going into this. On the first day I ate 2 bags
of chips and 12 ibuprofins all day and had a couple RedBulls. The second day
I dont remember what I ate, a sandwich or a muffin or something i think.
lots of ibuprofins and RedBulls as well of course!

Now that you are in the Guinness Book of World Records have you started
getting love letters on Sledclub.com from all the hotties?

Not really but maybe things will  pick up here soon. Maybe this interview
will help.

I hear you were using a radar gun, how fast were you clocked at before
hitting the jump?

79 mph or so. Probably about 80 off the ramp, I held it pinned all the way
up the ramp.

What video/s can we look out for in seeing your record jump in?

It will be in SledNecks 10, Two Stroke Cold Smoke 10, I think its going to
be in the next Nitro Circus as well.

Being from the Yukon/Canada, what's the stupidest question a fan has asked
you about where your from?

Well, i dont know. Yesterday I went through the drive through at
McDonalds and got asked if it was for here or to go. There are lots of
stupid questions. It seems that a lot of people think the Yukon is in
Alaska. I am actually really surprised when I am travelling how many people
actually do know where the Yukon is.

Anyone you want to thank for helping making this event happen?

Yeah I would like to thank all my sponsors of course for their great support
this season. Everyone who was a part of this did a great job and worked very
hard to make it happen. Chris and Clayton at the compound for all their
work. I guess my biggest thanks has to go to RedBull for investing so much
in me and making all this happen. All the encouragement and props from
people back home and from around Canada go a long way too, it's cool to hear
from people who are stoked on what i am doing. I like to think I am making
Canadians proud.

That you are indeed!
Keep up the good work! We look forward in seeing you keep pushing the sport and  bringing it to new levels!

Sebe's Blog: Me
By: boondocker

Well, I tried writing all this into my personal info today, just to realize that they only allow you 1000 characters...absolute bullshi*t considering people can put tons of gay little gifs on their page that make it neverending while scrolling down. Anyways, here's what I wrote..if you're interested.

- Things I Love -

-Snowboarding, Wakeboarding, and watching people Skate (because I'm more likely to crack my skull open on the pavement than to do an ollie...sad, I know)

-Sledding kicks ass, but surprisingly, is not my favourite thing to do. (Although Slednecks are badass)

-I LOVE Quading. I've had the best times of my life quading. I mean, how could you NOT love being up north at a beautiful lake on a hot summer day, and having tons of mud to play in

-Dirtbiking is the best thing to have ever happened to this world. And Motocross...wow. My favourite weekend all year is when the Motocross Nationals are here at Moto Valley...great times.

-Photography and Filming. I have a lot of my photos in my gallery, so take a look at em.

-Music means a lot to me. I can listen to almost any kind of music, but I really love older rock and country.

Some of my favourite bands are: Nirvana, Zeppelin, HIM, Incubus, Audioslave, Pink Floyd, Deftones, CKY, Fuel, Nine Inch Nails, and Tom Petty.

As for country, I love: The Corb Lund Band, Big N Rich, Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Keith Urban, Dierks Bentley, Great Big Sea, and tons of others. I honestly like anything country.

-Bowling
-Pool
-Movies
-Clothes (I absolutely loathe shopping, but I love clothes. Doesn't make sense, I know.)
-Mountain Biking
-Going for drives in the summer, smoking, and listening to music (it's therapeutic, I swear)

- Things I Hate -

-Sluts (yep, end your lives)
-Shopping
-Pop music
-People who think they're badass because they've been in jail for B&E's and auto theft. Yeah, you're real badass with that grade 6 education aren't ya?
-Being interrupted
-People on this site who are like "L0Lz Im SO0 SexXxI!!" and "U kan toucH bUt U KaNt HaV!1!~! HeHeZz". Seriously, you're ugly and no one likes you...time to face reality
-School
-Cellphones
-Emo kids (sorry...you're annoying)
-Metalheads who think they're part of some superior race because they listen to music about politics and how the world isn't fair. You guys are pretty much Emo kids with a lot of anger.

                               Interview With Rob Alford

Where did you grow up?
 Qualicum Beach, Vancouver Island.

You lived in Whistler before Revelstoke; what area do you prefer for sledding and why?
Both Whistler and Revelstoke have good points to them. Whistler has easier access to the goods but not as good snow.

Out of all the areas you have sledded whats your favorite place?
I have a new area in Revelstoke that is my favorite so far.  It is right by Zipper Mouth Creek.

What is Mt. Mackenzie Log Chalet?
It is a  deluxe bed and breakfast log home in Revelstoke which is covered in fresh pow right now. Check out www.logchalet.com  for more details.

I hear you commercial fish.  What is that like?
It pays the bills and it has some challenges that keeps it interesting.

What type of sledding impresses you most?
Well I am really impressed with the crazy airs those guys in Alaska are doing these days, and of course the big mountain pow riding.

Besides sledding what other activities keep you busy?
I do a lot of downhill biking, dirtbiking and some surfing.

What are your plans for this winter?
Send some airs and rip some pow!

Any sponsors or thanks you want to send out?
Blue Marble Oil, Fly Racing, Bull Dog truck Decks, A@E Motorsports and The Sled Shed.

Since June 13th the summer camp at Blackcomb mountain started, I have been only thinking about sledding on a chair lift every single day. I feel I'm stupid but can not stop thinking.

My Blog: It's over
By: cappel77

I'm done sledding for the season.  Yesterday I rode dirt for about a mile on Buff Pass and although the sledding was decent, i'm gonna call it a season.  Just over 500 miles this year.  Though that may not seem much to a lot of ppl, that's good for me.  Had to change the belt out there too but boyscout Bret was prepared with manual and new belt in hand so the swap was easy.  Still busy trying to find a house and getting situated in this new place.  The roommates are cool though I don't see them much and all is well.  It's raining out today though, bleh.  Time for work.  double bleh.

My bro thought it would be a good idea to go sledding today, let me remind you that it's hot, sunny and there's absolutley no snow on the ground. He went for a few rips down the ditch and the power line... 2 minutes after he came home the cops show up at the door lol... No charges or anything because the cops were pretty cool. *The sleds got a rumble pack can - crazy loud. Here's a picture taken about... 10 minutes before he went out sledding. lol.

Giraffe Entourage: First Time Sledding
By: Rodney

IMG_0747.JPG

So I went snowmobiling for my first time every on Saturday.  I went with Rick  to a Snowmobile area called Rutherford.  We had to travel about 25 km on a trail to get to the lake.  However, just before we reached the lake I had to do my first hill climb and I wasn't expecting this.  I got stuck twice and never actually made it up the hill.  When I got stuck, Rick had to help me turn the sled around facing downhill again so we could get it moving.  I had no idea snowmobiling was this dififcult.

I got to play around on the lake for a bit but still had some major issues while trying to turn.  After lunch,
Rick took me to the ice cap. WOW!  Beautiful.  Thats all I can say.  I've never seen so much snow in my life.  Just untrack snow as far as the eye could see.  Check out my  gallery for pics.

Anywho, my body is done for the next few days.  Snowmobiling is one of the most physically demanding sports I've ever done.  I haven't felt this sore since my dodgeball tournaments.  OW.

My Journal: Sled Break
By: KYLE

So yesterday, Rick, Aaron, Bruce and myself went sledding.  Fresh pow everywhere.. so sick.  Only I learned right away that I've been sitting behind a desk for too long.  Truely was great times.  Well except the part where I pooped my pants.  I was playing around on these pillows that are beside this lake, only I thought I was not that much higher then the lake and did a catwalk right off a tall pillow, I hit the eject button mid air and bounced off my head to land in some slush.  Good times.  I posted some pictures.

My parents peaced out for 2 weeks to Saskatoon. That means two weekends of partying at my house, yesss. They left yesterday and today I only went to one class haha...already I find myself slacking off. Oh well, school is so bunk...and I only have 3 classes haha. Well, I'm incredibly bored right now because everyone is still in class...sigh, I am lonely. Anyways, I am incredibly angry that I haven't gone snowboarding yet this year, it is quite unfortunate. I work every f-ing weekend and I never have enough time to head out to the hill for the day. Unlike my friend Amanda, who has already gone on two f*cking trips. I am jealous. At least I got to go on a wicked sledding trip though, Muahaha. Well, I'm going to go now...I'm sorry if you actually took the time to read this, it was rather pointless. Peace.

...the more i like.  I just downloaded a bunch of Atreyu and they're pretty rad.  Kinda 'new poppy emo kinda punk' but it's good stuff.  tomorrow i'm goin' sledding with my buddy Ryan up north.  I'm kinda scared though as it's been snowing here soooo much.  He works for a snowmobile touring place where we're going and they've gotten like 4 feet of snow in the last 4 days.  I'm still workin' on my deep snow skills ya know.  should be fun though.   My buddy Brian has a torn MCL, I think so he can't go which sucks but it will be a fun day anyway.  gotta get to bed now though as Ryan wants me at his place at 9am.  Bleh, on my day off.  anyway, i'll be givin' an update tomorrow night.  Yeah, another Atreyu song!!

Today was such a sick day.  Me and some buddies went sledding today and just had the best day ever.  I jumped off some cornices I wouldn't have dreamed of jumping off of last year and climbed some hills too.  I'm so happy with my Max!  We met some really nice guys from N. Dakota too and they started jumping off this cornice after we did.  It's like we gave 'em the push they needed.  The new quick straps work awesome on my goggles and my new balaclava is rad too!  We rode for about 4 hours.  Tomorrow i'm just gonna snowboard and hang out 'cause I have to work on new years day, bah.  I get paid time and a half all day though.  Yeah
