ok sounds to me like your engine is goin out the door,
the primary dosnt have to be on to pull the sled over. i find it hard to believe that somthin inside your rewind is stiff(not much moving parts in there)
sounds to me like your rings are ceasing. You said you can still pull it over but its stiff?
so try pouring some oil down the spark pulg holes(2 stroke, 10 w 30 etc), dont pour too much oil down there, but let it sit for a day or couple of hours.
now with the pugs still pulled out gently pull the engine over, it should free up the rings makin it easier to pull the sled over.
after pullin the sled over for awile put the plugs back in it and see if it will run, you might need to put some gas in the cylinder to help start the engine(it will smoke lots until the oil you poured in burns off)
now its not good for an engine to be reved out with out a load on it (primary, track etc) so dont hold it wide open if you can.
now this most be an older sled, and i will warn you that if it was ceased then u should rebuild the engine but ive done this too many of my friends beater sleds and they are still runing but there will be some loss of hp.
preventive maintance
for next year try puttin some oil in the cylinders b4 you put it away for the season,
but the most important thing to do is start your sled every month threw out the summer and take it for a rip(this isnt only for fun) it helps lube up all engine componets frees ceased bearings(in the undercarriage etc)
and insures that the moving parts of the sled dont become pitted or rusted from sitting in the same spot for 6 months of the year
tell me if that works or fire away some more quetions
