The o3 F7 is the fastest of all the F7's because they still used a chain case instead of diamond drive if I were to buy and F7 I would get an 03 but as far as them blowing up most of that is not happening anymore but most of it was caused by people tipping them on the right side with a low level of oil in them then they would get an air bubble in the oil line and if you don’t purge it out it could potentially blow it up just keep the oil full and don’t tip it on the right side and you should be good. I’m not sure about the 03's but the o4's had a fuel tank recall they would crack right around the cap area and they also had a recall on the steering and low oil level indicator. the gas tank and the steering are the most important but the oil level indicator just turned on before the oil level really got low so that’s no big deal.

I just picked up a 03 F7,AWESOME sled,almost3000 miles and runs like it just came out of the box.Damn fast on the trails,so so in powder.I bought a F5 at the same time my buddy bought this F7,I think the 5 is better in the rough stuff, but it could be I rode it for 4 years and I'm not use to the power of the 7 yet...[OK,going from a 5 to a 7,yeah...I'm a little scared of it in the trees!!!]LOL

They are more of a sno cross sled if your coming from a sled with a 15" wide track you will have to get use to it because it is tippyer with the narro track. another thing in the deep powder they like to cut in and get hung up on the running boards cat thought that they could make up for how narrow the track is by making it longer. Good Idea except its still narrow and the  back of the track is in the same foot print as the front there for if it spins the front cuts in and the back cuts in the same spot. They are not a great deep powder sled they do work but not as good as the old 121x15 my cousin has an 06 f-7 and I could get through stuff on my ZRT that he would get burried in. They are a good ditch banger but even trails the guys with the wider tracks are still going to be more stable and less tippy  I could also out run my cousin in the trails to and this is all up on lake of the woods. The F chassis is a fun chassis but it is a whole different riding technique you just have to know how to ride them.

If you can get an '03 - DO IT!  Fastest stock 700 around PERIOD.  I have one, recently extended the rails/tunnel to a 144" (see picture on profile).  Replacing the stock skis with Simmons Flexi for better floatation.  When in the deep stuff, just keep 'er pinned.  I dragged mine as a 128" fast as he!! man.  Topped out at 105MPH across a lake last winter, radar'd by the RCMP.  Git 'er done!

the f-chassis is a great ride even when it gets rough but as someone said, they are very tippy if not to carefull when pushing on the trails, the first few time i was out i was playing with it trying to figure out the way the front reacts in the twisties, and now my friends know im pushing it because they see the inside ski lift about a foot off the ground.
also whatever year you get, do yourself a favor and get the four wheel kit for the rear axle, if not allready installed

madatory on 06
optional on 05
none on 03 04

also, get the update for the steering arm if it's an older one,..  03 04, they had a tendency of falling off when it gets rough, but Cat made a nice polished piece for them

but the key for firecats and sabrecats are to costantly play with your suspension until your 100% happy with it, don't ride with the sled, make it ride with you

and as for mods,..  carb or EFI..??
mines an EFI  F6, i've put on a jaws can and a boondocker kit and it made a very noticable differance, as for riser, i belive they come with a 4" block so in most poeples cases they are high enough but I needed a bit more so i had an extra pair of renthals lieing around and on they went,  world of differance, the straighter you can stand up the more controll you have
just don't touch the pipe, they are factory tuned by the racing division so you most likley wont get better unless you pay some stupid amount, just Can it
