freeride77 u dont know much about sleds do u? the oil pump would be the last thing to look at. u should replace the pistion rings. the if its still useing a lot of oil take it to a yamaha shop and have them look at the oil pump. because if u set it to lean theres no way to know until u ride it and if u did set the pump to lean u will burn up your motor testing it

umm dude the piston wrings dont have anything to do with how much oil your burning, the oil pump is gear driven from the crank, so bad wrings or good ones wont make a diff. on how much oil is getting pumped, freeride77 is kinda right, it might be just a bad adjustment on the oil pump cable.

Yeah, I think you're going to have to look at your pump, I have a similar problem, but just how much is "alot" of oil?  I have a couple buddys that have 2 exact same Yamahas, and one burns 2x as much as the other, and they've brought them in, and the dealer just said leave it...so I guess I'm not a pro on this subject, but...yeah...so maybe you don't have to worry tooo much...

It could also be simply the kind of oil your running, some oils like the amsoil hp injector shit is really light so it seeps through like water, the cheap oils get real thick under cold weather wich slows down the flow so depending on where your riding it might be just to light of oil and warm weather??

It sounds like all you need is an oil pump adjustment....alittle more oil is better than none....

I would rather pay for oil than a motor...lol

Dude, These are 2 stroke engines with oil injection... The amount of oil that is used is directly related to the throttle % and engine rpm. Rings will have no affect on how much oil is injected... If someone told you to change the rings and you did it, they fooled the hell out of you... The pump needs to be adjusted, but this is a very touchy subject. Yamaha must publish how much oil is acceptable per gallon of gas, so try to do some research and find out what that # is. I am  having the same problem and I am running Yamalube in 2 identical sleds. One burns exactly 2x as much as the other and oil fouls plugs every 30 - 40 miles. Good luck, and if you find the magic oil / fuel # post it...

if the sled is running good. and dosnt foul a plug, or spotter at certain rpms i would just ride it.
you could check your oiler for adjustment(sometimes cables stretch, people dont set them right)
but for the most part the yamaha 2 strokes burn lots of oil, because they are usually triples or sometimes 4 cylinders. which require more oil to lube all the moving parts(more moving parts more oil needed)
sure you could adjust your oiler, but if the sled is running good, everything should be good
(remeber yamahas tend to be a strong motor, keep it well lubed and it will stay that way) unlike some of the other brands which dont seem to use any oil and blow up every 1000 to 2000 miles.(like the older artic cat triples that needed an updated oiler because it couldnt lube the engine properly)

and ps. buddy who said that it needs rings is a retard and must think you have a 4 stroke.

buddy who said different oils make a difference is right.

my mtn max use to burn a shit loud of oil(thought it was normal) until i stoped using synthetic and went to the crappy tire cheap stuff(still burns more then most sleds but way less then that expensive synthetic crap)
now im buying cheaper oil and its lasting longer(hopefully it dosnt blow up)

also on my sled, if im shredding the deep stuff for long periods, my throttle on the handle bars gets sticky(packed with snow), i ususally just slap it a couple times to free it up but sometimes my oil cable actually freezes and i have to pick the ice out to get it loose again(this would make my oiler stay on )

just a thought could also be an old cable which is binding in the  casing.

i have the exact same sled v-maxxes are just natural oil consumers ther is no way to really change this unless u want to buy a new Engine/sled. I know this because my dad is a yamaha tech he works for the yamaha corp in a fucking huge shop so i think i know what im talkin about cause i asked the same question
